Putting you at the core of our success

When we launched our Corporate Sustainability program a year ago, we were fully aware of the fact that we would not be judged on our speeches, but rather on the coherence and the impact of our actions.

A conference on economic leaks and a situational analysis of our local economy, named Lokal is Beautiful, financing solutions for SME, with a positive impact through the Lokal is Beautiful Scheme, partnering with the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation for about Rs 20 million over three years, which comprises of the Your Card for Change program (10 cents donated to Mauritian Wildlife every time you use your card), the support to NGOs involved with our programme, the Call for Projects, Rises Nou Kiltir, the development of a cultural sector by providing a platform — VIBE — to our artists and to our entrepreneurs involved in activities surrounding performing arts… These have been our main actions this year.

However, we intend to go further in our endeavours. In order to achieve them, our teams work relentlessly to set up financing solutions, which would help entrepreneurs and individuals in their steps towards sustainable development.

We have the conviction that businesses will, now and onwards, be judged on their capacity to integrate sustainable development at the core of their activities. At MCB, we have a pivotal role to play in order to facilitate the changeover of these businesses. That’s why we are sparing no effort to accompany them towards this end.

On top of these initiatives, Success Beyond Numbers is also a new and more responsible way of doing business. That is why we adhered to the UN Global Compact, a worldwide initiative which regroups businesses all over the world who want to bring about positive changes and who adhere to the United Nations Environment Protection Finance Initiative towards responsible banking. These agreements have to be adhered to under very strict guidelines and compel us to analyse the impact of our operations on the environment and society, whilst respecting fundamental rights of every individual.

These principles, which we purposely made ours, prompt us to make choices, be it in terms of what activities we finance, or regarding our actions and the carbon emissions which result from these. We take these responsibilities very seriously, as highlighted by the publication of our first Sustainability Report last month.

Sustainable and inclusive prosperity also imply the transformation of our banking activities, which foster transparency and simplicity through the digital revolution to which we are fully committed, as well as the elaboration of useful and simple banking solutions that simplify the lives of our customers.

This is precisely Success Beyond Numbers’ ultimate goal: to be a responsible enterprise, conscious of its societal impact, whilst simplifying the daily life of its customers. Your life !
